Friday morning I rolled out of here at 3:30 am. My friend, her dh and I took 7am CST flight out of Chicago, and landed in Seattle at 9am PST. We met up with a few other friends at the airport and took a shuttle to our B&B in downtown Seattle. Everything was wonderful. There were about 40 of us there and we took up the entire B&B and a few people stayed off site, as well. It was great to meet all the people who normally live inside my computer.
Friday was spent getting acquainted over a late lunch and making a "beer run." I was involved in a cross-city booze relay race which consisted of about 6 of us trading boxes and bags the whole way back to the B&B. We all met up for dinner at an Irish Pub, and by 9:00pm, I had been up for more than 20 hours, so I called it a night and went to bed at 10:00.
Saturday, a group of us did a little sightseeing, and went on an underground tour of Seattle. We had lunch, and I explored the Public Market for a while. I was so completely taken with the entire market: produce, flowers, seafood (yes, and the fish Pike fish throwers), food, art.... I think I could go there everyday.
That evening, we all grabbed dinner of our choice to go, and ate back at the B&B. I had sushi for the first time-California rolls, eel rolls and edamame pods. I'm hooked. I need more. After dinner we partied at the B&B, and some people stayed for charades, and the rest of us went out to a Karaoke bar. Another first for me. I sang a rousing duet of Sonny & Cher's "I Got You Babe," with a friend. For the record, I was sober. We went back and had pizza and went to sleep at 3:00am.
Sunday morning, some of us went to breakfast to try the "Seattle Famous" Dungeness crab omelette. Let me just say, while the food was good in Seattle, the service was AWFUL. We sat outside in the 50 degree rain for an hour and a half and didn't even get our coffee taken off the bill. I headed off on my own to do some shopping and go back to the market, and then took the monorail over the Space Needle to meet up with a group. Then I went BACK to the market, and had the perfect lunch: award-winning Pike Market clam chowder, and some fresh donuts. We said our goodbyes, and at 5 we headed back to the airport.
We landed in Chicago at 1:30 am and got home at 3:30 am.
Tuesday was LASIK. The aftermath was more uncomfortable than I predicted but after a sleeping pill and 6 hours of sleep I felt great. I can see with 20/30 vision and it should get better over the next few days. I have some dryness and some occasional haziness, but other than that it's an absolute miracle. I've had corrective lenses for 27 years, and my eyes were -8.5 and -9 until Tuesday.
