Fire Station Field Trip

Our twins group had an outing to the fire station, today. I am having a complete "mommy brain" day, and showed up about 15 minutes late (I thought I was 15 minutes EARLY). Thankfully, the main fire engine was out on a call anyway, and Brodie has no concept of time. He got to spray the hose, and see where the firefighters eat dinner and watch T.V. We missed the tour of the ambulance, but Brodie had been inside of the ambulance at the "festibul" last week. The absolute BEST part was when one of the firefighters went upstairs and came down the pole. The hole in the ceiling has a kind of funnel that opens up, so you can't actually see anything. When that guy came down the pole, Brodie jumped back about two feet, and for the first time since learning to talk, was COMPLETELY speechless. He had no idea what had just happened, why it happened or HOW. He was too shocked to ask. The group kept moving to next area, and Brodie just stood there, staring up at the top of the pole trying to figure it out.

After the fire station, everyone went to the adjoining park to play. We stayed for a few minutes, but went home. I'm still feeling very disconnected from the allergy meds and I wanted to get the girls home in time for lunch. I was not at my social "best" today.

When we got home, I showed Brodie where the smoke detectors were, and we tested two of them, and talked about where we should go in case of a fire. I showed him our fire extinguisher and talked about 911. After lunch, we put the babies to bed and went downstairs to play. I couldn't help noticing Brodie quietly inspecting the tops of our support poles...
