WARNING!! Not for the faint of heart.

If you are easily grossed out by mucus or vomit, stop reading. Now.

So, both the girls caught Brodie's cold. It came on like a bullet train. One minute they were fine, the next they were coughing and snotty. Last night Cailey kept coughing and then waking herself up, so I said to Tom, "Next time we hear her, we'll need to give her some cough syrup." So the next time, I got a dose of Cough and Cold ready, and we headed upstairs. Cate was coughing and crying, while Cailey slept. Tom said, "Oh, hell, give 'em each half the dose." So we did, and then another half dose each when we went to bed.

This morning their faces looked like glazed donuts when they woke up. Gross. Anyone who has had a child this age may remember the "joy" of pinning a combative infant down to suction out their nose. My joy was two-fold. I wandered the house, pockets loaded with tissue awaiting the next gross explosive sneeze. I only gave them half a cup of milk at each meal, with juice or Pedialyte for a chaser. Cate threw up at naptime (from coughing), so I had that pleasantry to deal with. I gave both of the girls baths (Brodie asked why their baths were stinky...I used a soothing vapor wash). By the time that was all done it was time for lunch! The girls weren't very hungry.

I was very thankful that Tom came home early today. He played outside with Brodie while I watched Laverne and Shirley. The Big Ragu! I was happy to make an exit to get my haircut, and order a birthday cake for the girls. I had to speak slowly for the girl at the bakery. I have a fear that the cake will say Happy Birthday, twice.

The girls are sleeping tonight, albeit a restless sleep. Brodie was just hacking and coughing, too, although he seems to be on the mend.

Bless you. You didn't catch my kids' colds, did you? I only let one of them lick your fork.
