Please take the time to read the following. There are two moms on my message boards who have children and family members affected by EB. I will be meeting with one of these women later this month.
I know someone who has a skin problem called Epidermolysis Bullosa. This is a long, fancy name for a genetic condition which causes his skin to blister and tear easily. This is because he is missing a certain protein in his skin. Blisters can occur after a slight bump of the skin or even from walking too much. The blisters and sores are very painful, but he is used to getting them and has found ways to deal with the pain. He sometimes has to wear bandages to protect his skin and allow his sores to heal.
EB is a genetic disease, it is not contagious. There is no cure for it, but research is always continuing to make people with this more comfortable while they are looking for a cure.
Sometimes, people are afraid of him because they don’t understand what he has or how it affects him and others like him. Please go to www.debra.org to find out more information on this condition.
