cookouts, gardening...

Sunday, we headed out to my sister's and brother-in-law's place for a cookout. It was hot, hot, hot! We sat on their deck while Brodie ran around, but it just wound up being too hot. We ate inside. We had burgers, brats, and potato salad. Everything was very good; I was too full to eat anything for the rest of the night! The girls were pretty happy as long as they were in the A/C. Tom and I watched Pirates of the Caribbean later that night. It was better than I expected it to be.

On Monday, Brodie and I headed outside right after breakfast and planted the garden. It was already 80 degrees at 7:30! Brodie had fun digging in the dirt and finding worms and "roly-poly" bugs (didn't touch 'em; just looked). I planted way too much stuff, but I figure there's a good chance some of it wouldn't come up anyway since I'm still kind of a garden novice. I planted very small amounts of several different things so I can see what grows, and what we use. I planted tomatoes, thyme, cilantro, mint, parsley, chives, oregano, and basil. I planted one jalapeno plant, an eggplant, a few cucumbers and zucchinis. I also tried some lettuce seeds, and pumpkin seeds. We'll see.

I let Brodie run around and I sprayed him with the hose. By 9:00 it was too hot, and he was a muddy wet thing, so we went inside to clean up. That afternoon, Bill came over with his sister, brother-in-law, and their 4 year old daughter. She and Brodie had so much fun! We had shish ka bobs and potato salad with ice cream cake. It was a really nice weekend!
